According to USA Today, Susan Cheever's new book, "Desire: Where Sex Meets Addiction," fails to deliver any solid insight into sex addiction.
The review describes the book's focus on sex addiction as tenuous at best, being largely based on autobiographical material concerning the author's third marriage.
Reading the review, I am not sure whether the author is more disappointed by the lack of real substance on sex addiction as the topic of the moment, described as "on full sizzle, thanks to headlines about David Duchovny's rehab stint and the $3,000 monthly Internet porn tab rung up by Christie Brinkley's ex-husband Peter Cook," or by what is described as the unfortunate lack of titillation.
Sex addiction, it seems, is the stuff of entertainment, and it is all too easy to forget that it affects real people, often causing them overwhelming unhappiness and difficulty for many years. Fortunately, there are resources available for those who wish to overcome addiction.
