Dr Perry Kendall, tireless advocate for the cause of harm reduction, and supporter of Insite, North America's first safe injection site, was today honored with a Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal.
As one member of the small audience who witnessed this event, I was deeply touched by the recognition of such an important supporter of drug users, who remained humble throughout the proceedings, citing the support of family and colleagues rather than taking the credit himself for all he has acheived on behalf of drug users.
That someone working in this field should gain such recognition that this work is important is a great source of hope for those of us who often feel we are fighting to be heard or validated in advocating for those with addictions. Congratulations, Dr Perry Kendall!
