Question: Is under age drinking OK for my teenage child if I am drinking with them?
Can parents give their children alcohol? I did it with my parents, and it didn't do me any harm. I feel the risks of under age drinking are exaggerated. Aren't the parents the best ones to guide their own child through early experimentation?
Answer:

Although the only place it is legal for under age drinking by teenager is at home with parents present, that does not make it OK. If you are concerned about the healthy development of your child, you won't take the risk of allowing under age drinking.

Using drugs with your child carries serious penalties, and may result in your child being removed from your care. Drinking or taking drugs with your child sends your child the message that drinking and drug use is OK, and children who have parents with alcohol and drug addictions are more likely to develop these addictions themselves.

Drinking alcohol and using drugs carries many risks, especially for young people, and there is increasing evidence that under age drinking and drug use at a young age can lead to long-term deficits in brain development.
