Question: Is underage drinking OK if my teenage child’s friends drink in my home?
If they are under my supervision, surely giving teens alcohol to drink at home is better than them doing it somewhere else. Underage drinking sounds bad, but don't they deserve to have a little fun?
Answer:

No, it is not OK. Here’s why:

  • It is illegal for an adult to give teens alcohol, even in the adult’s home, and even with the other teenage kids' parents’ blessing.
  • You can be sued if you know underage drinking is occurring on your property, or even if you should know it is occurring on your property.
  • You could face six months’ imprisonment, or a $1,000 fine.

There are good reasons for this -- alcohol can be harmful to teenagers' developing brains, and there are many risks associated with intoxication. Alcohol is implicated in a large proportion of accidents. and injuries. Underage drinking is illegal.
