Few services are available for people with video game addiction and their loved ones, but a group for the parents and guardians of children with video game addiction is now available in Seattle, WA.
The group follows the psycho-educational model, in which teaching is the main group activity. The group setting also provides the opportunity to meet with other parents who are struggling with their children’s compulsive computer use. People typically find this supportive, and feel less isolated knowing they are not the only one going through this problem.
The content of the group sessions covers:
- The nature of addiction
- The limits that people with addictions need
- How to set boundaries for your video game addicted child
- Preparation for your child going through withdrawal from video game addiction
- You child’s reconnection with reality
The group is facilitated by Dr. Hilarie Cash, a co-founder of Internet/Computer Addiction Services, and Anna DiNoto, currently studying for her doctorate in clinical psychology with a focus in video game/Internet addiction at Argosy University in Seattle, Washington.
Fees: There is a fee of $25 per session.
