Definition: Rehab is the short form of the word "rehabilitation." It is commonly used by the media to refer to treatment for addictions, although the term actually refers to a broad range of approaches used to help people with a range of different problems. This can include maximizing the potential of people who have physical disabilities or who are recovering from serious illnesses or injuries, to helping offenders re-enter society in a productive way.
Rehab is also the term often used to specifically refer to addiction treatment that takes place in a residential/inpatient setting, such as is depicted in VH1 reality show "Celebrity Rehab."
