Question: How Much Alcohol is in an American Standard Drink?
The American Standard Drink is defined in terms of the amount of alcohol contained within common alcoholic beverages. Beverages vary greatly in strength, and the standard drink is only a guideline.
Answer:

A standard drink is an alcoholic beverage that contains 14 grams, 0.6 fluid ounces, 1.2 tablespoons, or 18ml of pure ethanol alcohol.

All of these common alcoholic beverages are "standard drinks."

One 12 oz / 355 ml can, glass, or bottle of beer or cooler (5% alcohol). This is the standard small beverage can, not the larger cans commonly used for beer.

One 5 oz / 148 ml glass of wine (12% alcohol). There are five standard glasses of wine in a 25 oz / 750 ml bottle of wine.

One 1.5 oz / 44ml shot of spirits, such as whisky, vodka, brandy or rum (40% alcohol).
