Confessions of a Shopaholic
I couldn't resist reviewing the new movie, "Confessions of a Shopaholic," as shopping addiction is one of the most under-represented addictions in the literature. Obviously, the movie was not intended to provide accurate information, being a light comedy, but it does have the power to influence the public perception of the disorder.
Someone had done their homework, because I was surprised at how many elements of the addictive process were represented in the movie. However, it also reinforced some common stereotypes, and over-simplified the experience of addiction and recovery.
I'd love to read what you think! Feel free to add comments.

I haven’t seen the movie, but I do personally know a shopping addict, and I can definitely see how it would be oversimplified in the movie. However, as a comedy, I guess they wouldn’t have any other choice but to do so. I’ve seen it for myself—Shopping addiction can wreck lives just like any other addiction.
I’ve known people who fill their houses up with so many unusable things it’s ridiculous. They just couldn’t resist buying 100 T-shirts since they were on sale for $1. Never mind the fact that they’re all the wrong size, it was a great bargain! Yes, it’s an addiction and one that ruins lives (and credit).
le maxmara line is addictive as hell. if there was tourment for shoppers, its max mara clothes. makes me vert crazy
Holding my new Marc Jacobs bag and new shades, I went yesterday to a local theather to watch the movie. Before that, I know that It was kind of my thing, just that making it up with my passion to fashion, working as a stylist, worked as the perfect excuse for my behavior. I have to say that even If I laugh during some parts of the movie, less than 24 h. after I am really lost and recognizing that I have a disorder and need help. Probably the movie is a commercial simplify angle but it may inspired more other addicts like me to realize that is a real problem and treat it seriously,
