January is National Stalking Awareness Month, a reminder that stalking is an unacceptable form of violence that no-one should have to put up with. And cyberstalking is a modern form of stalking that is so harmful, it was recently implicated in the tragic death of 15 year old Amanda Todd.
Educational campaigns like Stalking Awareness Month are important, because many people do not realize that cyberstalking, cyberbullying, and cyberharassment are increasingly being considered to be violent crimes, and are being recognized as such in law. Victims may not realize that they can go to the police and be taken seriously and receive protection. And many sex addicts and internet addicts fail to recognize either how harmful their behavior is, or the consequences they could face by cyberstalking.
