Question: Can I Limit My Online Betting?

The recent explosion in online betting has lead many internet gamblers and their family members to wonder whether it is possible to place limits on gambling activity.

Answer:

Recent research shows that self-limiting your online betting can be effective. You can place a limit on the amount you can deposit to a betting site.

Those who impose limits on the online betting tend to play a wider variety of games, and place more bets than those who do not. Self-limiting the amount you spend on betting online not only reduces the amount of money lost in online betting, but also reduces the overall amount of time spent gambling, although it does not reduce the amount placed per bet.

This research is important, because the amount of time spent gambling, as well as the amount of money spent gambling, is an indicator of gambling problems. Imposing limits on your gambling will help to curb both of these aspects of problematic gambling online.
